Macrame Rainbow Keychain

Make your keys a little more colorful with a handmade Macrame Rainbow Keychain!

Macrame Rainbow Keychains

Macrame can seem like a daunting craft, but this is one of the easiest projects there is! Tweens and teens can easily complete this project on their own, and it's a fun one to do as a group. By simply adjusting the lengths of the macrame rope and changing colors of the macrame cords, there are so many creative ways to personalize a macrame rainbow keychain to fit your personality. The keychains also make great handmade gifts!

Macrame Rainbow Keychain Supplies

To make your own Macrame Rainbow Keychains, you will need these supplies:

Macrame Rainbow Keychain Rope

Cut three lengths of white 6mm macrame rope using sharp scissors. For a larger rainbow keychain, cut the pieces measuring 7", 6" and 5". For a smaller rainbow keychain, cut the pieces 5", 4", and 3" long.

Macrame Rainbow Keychain Wrapping

Start with the largest rope piece for the first rainbow arch color. Tightly wrap the macrame cord about an inch away from the end of the rope, and fold the end of the cord up the rope so that it gets covered. Keep tightly wrapping the cord around the rope until you get to about an inch away from the other end of the rope. Cut the cord, and secure the end with a little bit of adhesive. Hold in place until the adhesive sets.

Macrame Wrapped Rope

Wrap the other two lengths of rope with two other colors of macrame cord. Make sure all of the ends of the cord have been secured with adhesive.

Macrame Rainbow Keychain Purple

Attach a jump ring to the end of the keychain, and thread the largest rope piece through the ring. Hold the jump ring in the center of the rope, and add a line of adhesive to the top edge of the medium-sized rope over the cord. Center the medium rope underneath the larger rope and shape them into an arch.

Hold the pieces together tightly until the adhesive sets. If you are having a hard time holding the ropes together, you can use small clamps to keep them together until the glue sets.

Macrame Rainbow Keychain Blue

Add a line of adhesive to the top of the shortest rope piece, and center it at the bottom of the rainbow. Hold the pieces together until the adhesive sets.

Large Macrame Rainbow Keychain

Use a small comb to separate the frayed ends of the ropes. Now you can use your new and colorful keychain! This larger macrame rainbow keychain is also a great size item to hang from your rearview mirror, or to attach to a backpack or purse.

Small Macrame Rainbow Keychain

The smaller macrame rainbow keychain is the perfect size for attaching to keys, backpacks, and so much more! If you have kids, this is also a great size to use for a zipper pull.

Macrame Rainbow Keychains

These keychains are such a simple project, and come together quickly. I love that you can easily adjust the lengths of rope and the colors of the cord to make each rainbow unique! As always, I would love to see your creations! Share yours on InstagramFacebook, or leave a comment/photo on the project pin on Pinterest! #AFMCrafts
