Candy Corn Sugar Cookies Recipe at artsyfartsymama.com

Once fall starts, we see candy corn everywhere. I'm not a fan of the candy myself, but I love to create with it and love those orange, yellow and white stripes!! These candy corn cookies are a sweet treat to enjoy this fall and are so easy to make. Plus, there is no candy corn at all in the recipe, so that alone guarantees that they'll be delicious!

Candy Corn Sugar Cookies
Makes about 12 dozen cookies
Recipe adapted from Land O'Lakes

Ingredients:
2 cups butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
6 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda

Directions:
  1. Line a 9x5 inch loaf pan with parchment or wax paper.
  2. Mix up your cookie dough and divide into three equal pieces.
  3. Press one piece of cookie dough evenly into the pan with your fingers, then smooth the top with some parchment paper. Place the pan into the fridge.
  4. Use a small amount of gel food coloring and a hand mixer to color the other two dough pieces yellow and orange. Wrap the yellow dough in some plastic wrap and place in the fridge.
  5. Press the orange dough on top of the white/plain dough in the pan.
*If the orange dough seems soft, you can place the pan in the fridge for 5-10 minutes.
  6. Press the yellow dough on top of the orange dough and cover the pan with plastic wrap.
  7. Refrigerate the dough 1-2 hours or overnight.
  8. Remove the dough from the pan and peel the paper off. Lay the dough on some plastic wrap or parchment paper.
  9. Cut a 1/4 - 1/2 inch slice of dough off the end of the dough brick with a butcher knife.
  10. Cut four diagonal cuts on the slice of dough to make five candy corn cookies (see image above).
  11. OPTIONAL: Dip the cookies into a bowl of sugar before baking.
  12. Place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet. (I was able to fit about 25 cookies on one cookie sheet). For best results, make sure dough is chilled before baking.
  13. Bake 350ยบ for 7-10 minutes. DO NOT OVERBAKE.
  14. Let cool and enjoy!

Thanksgiving Turkey Treat Bags

Thanks to Elmer's for the supplies used in this post. All opinions are my own.
Thanksgiving Turkey Treat Bags with Free Printable Template at artsyfartsymama.com
My daughter and I enjoy making holiday crafts together. This year, we have decided to create some fun Thanksgiving Turkey Treat Bags for our Thanksgiving dinner and to give to her school teachers. These turkeys are so fun to make, and I'm sure you'll love them, too! To make things easier, I've also created a free printable template for you to use so you can enjoy making some for your family and friends as well!

Thanksgiving Turkey Treat Bags with Free Printable Template at artsyfartsymama.com

Print out the turkey body template on brown cardstock. Cut it out, then use a scoring tool or bone folder to crease the horizontal lines on the pattern so you can easily fold the body to assemble the turkey.

Thanksgiving Turkey Treat Bags with Free Printable Template at artsyfartsymama.com

Print out the second page of the template on white cardstock. Cut out one feather, one foot, beak, wattle, and both sets of eyes. Use the feather foot, beak, and wattle as templates and trace them onto cardstock in the colors of your choice. You will use the eyes as-is, so you can glue the pupils on the white circles.

Speaking of glue, I would recommend using any of these kinds of Elmer's glues. For kids, the Gel School Glue Sticks work wonderfully since it's washable and dries clear. The X-TREME School Glue Stick is also washable and dries clear, but is formulated for bigger, tougher projects and is sure to give your turkey a stronger hold. The CraftBond® Permanent Tape Runner and CraftBond® Glue Spots are convenient and easy to use as a quick way to put your turkeys together.

Thanksgiving Turkey Treat Bags with Free Printable Template at artsyfartsymama.com

Fold your turkey body template. On the back, glue one feather in the center. Make sure you place it so you can see about half or more of the feather from the front. Glue the remaining feathers next to that center feather.

On the bottom of the body, glue both feet down at the heels and place them so you can see the turkey's toes when the bag is standing up.

Thanksgiving Turkey Treat Bags with Free Printable Template at artsyfartsymama.com

Turn the turkey's body over, and glue the eyes, beak, and wattle on the front flap. The wattle can go over the beak or under the flap - the choice is up to you!

Thanksgiving Turkey Treat Bags with Free Printable Template at artsyfartsymama.com

Next, I cut an autumn cellophane bag in half and filled it with treats. Tape it closed with some washi tape. Place the bag inside the turkey standing up. Fold the front of the turkey up next to the bag. Cut another piece of washi tape and tape the bag to the turkey by going from the back of the bag to the front of the paper. You could also staple the treat bag if you don't have tape.

Thanksgiving Turkey Treat Bags with Free Printable Template at artsyfartsymama.com

Pull the face of the turkey up over the front of the turkey body to cover the tape (or staple). Glue the face in place and hold until it has set. Now your turkey treat bag is complete!!

Thanksgiving Turkey Treat Bags with Free Printable Template at artsyfartsymama.com

This is also a fun project for kids from start to finish! Print out the template on white cardstock instead of using colored cardstock. Let them color away with crayons*, markers or colored pencils. Then cut out the pieces, score the body along the lines and glue the pieces on with the Elmer's glue of your choice. Place a bag of candy in the center and your kids can place their custom turkeys on the Thanksgiving table or give them to their school teachers as a sweet gift before Thanksgiving break!

*Keep in mind that turkeys colored in crayon will need more glue or a stronger glue than turkeys colored in colored pencil or marker due to the waxy finish.

Thanksgiving Turkey Treat Bags with Free Printable Template at artsyfartsymama.com

You can also turn this sweet turkey treat bag into a customized place setting at your Thanksgiving table! Cut a strip of cardstock and pen in your guests names with a metallic gold (or any color you like) Painters® Paint Markers.

If stunning penmanship isn't your forte, here's a secret tip: print out all of your guests names in a font you love, and simply trace over the print with your paint marker!

Thanksgiving Turkey Treat Bags with Free Printable Template at artsyfartsymama.com

Glue the name strips down on the fronts of your turkeys. Now your Thanksgiving table has a special place setting for each guest including a sweet treat for them to enjoy after dinner!

3 Ingredient Pumpkin Cake with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting #SnackandSmile

Nothing is more delicious than homemade fall snacks. If you are a fan of pumpkin desserts, this pumpkin cake with cinnamon cream cheese frosting will hit the spot. With only 3 ingredients, it is probably one of the easiest treats you can make and is literally "a piece of cake"!!

3 Ingredient Pumpkin Cake with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting #SnackandSmile

The secret to this simple recipe is using yogurt. Any kind will do, really, but the Yoplait light Pumpkin Pie added an extra bit of pumpkin-y flavor to the cake along with helping to make the cake light and moist. You can find this seasonal edition yogurt along with other flavors, such as Yoplait Greek 100 Caramel Apple, Yoplait Greek 100 Whips! Pumpkin Cheesecake, and Yoplait original Apple Crisp at Walmart.

3 Ingredient Pumpkin Cake:
1 box spice cake mix
8 oz Yoplait Light Pumpkin Pie yogurt
15 oz canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  1. In a bowl, combine all ingredients.
  2. Pour mixture into a greased 9 x 13 pan.
  3. Bake at 350ยบ for 28-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Let cool completely before adding frosting.

3 Ingredient Pumpkin Cake with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting #SnackandSmile

The cake is delightful on its' own, but when you top it with cinnamon cream cheese frosting it becomes the very essence of fall!

Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting:
1 can cream cheese frosting OR
8 ounces cream cheese
1/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
2-3 cups powdered sugar
  1. Beat softened butter and cream cheese until well blended.
  2. Add cinnamon, vanilla and powdered sugar. Start with 2 cups of powdered sugar and beat until creamy. Add more powdered sugar as needed to get the consistency you want.

3 Ingredient Pumpkin Cake with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting #SnackandSmile

I hope you try this cake for yourself. It's a simple recipe that you can bake for your family or give it away to friends and neighbors. You can also bake this recipe as cupcakes (adjust the cooking time to 10-15 minutes) for easier snacking.

What is your favorite way to snack with Yoplait? I'd love to read your ideas in the comments!

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of General Mills. The opinions and text are all mine.

Pumpkin Donuts

Donuts are one of my most favorite foods...ever. I really shouldn't love them so much (for obvious reasons), but I just can't let them go. Luckily, they have the reputation of being incredibly time-consuming to cook yourself, so that has kept me from cooking some every.single.day.

Pumpkin Donuts Recipe at artsyfartsymama.com

Then, I discovered the donut pan. Baked donuts might not be the same as our favorite fried ones, but they are delicious nonetheless. These Pumpkin Donuts are everything autumn. They've got the pumpkin, the spices, and enough sweetness to curb your donut craving. They are even simple enough for me to make, so I promise that you can do it, too!!

Ingredients
1 3/4 cup + 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1 3/4 tsp baking powder
1 1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed light-brown sugar
1/2 cup canola oil
3 large eggs
1 1/2 cups canned pumpkin puree
1 tsp vanilla extract

Coating
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

Pumpkin Donuts Recipe at artsyfartsymama.com

Directions
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and pumpkin pie spice. Add in granulated sugar and brown sugar and whisk until well combined (you don't want any clumps, so break them up with fingertips or spoon if necessary).
  2. Add oil, pumpkin puree and vanilla extract and blend until mixture is well blended. Add eggs and mix until well combined.
  3. Spoon or pipe batter into buttered donut wells, filling each about 3/4 full (almost 1/4 cup for each).
  4. Bake in preheated 350ยบ degree oven for 13-16 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a donut comes out clean.
  5. Mix together 1/3 cup sugar and 1 1/4 tsp cinnamon until well combined in a small bowl.
  6. Cool donuts slightly, then add one warm donut to the bowl, and roll it around in the sugar mixture to coat.
  7. Place on wire rack to cool completely. Store in an airtight container.
*Donuts can also be frozen for later: freeze donuts after cooling, then thaw and cover with sugar mixture before serving.
