This Indoor Snowball Fight Kit with Free Printable Tag is the perfect gift idea for a night of family fun!

Thanks to Oriental Trading for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions are my own.

This Indoor Snowball Fight Kit with Free Printable Tag is a fun gift for kids and the perfect idea for a night of family fun!

With winter officially here, I'm always looking for activities to do indoors with the entire family. Why not bring the fun of a snowball fight indoors, but without the cold and wet mess? This DIY Indoor Snowball Fight Kit comes with everything you'd need for a day in the snow, even if you live in a warm climate! You can easily put this kit together for your own family, or make it as a gift to share with another family this holiday season.

This Indoor Snowball Fight Kit with Free Printable Tag is a fun gift for kids and the perfect idea for a night of family fun!

First, find something to hold all of the snowball fight goodies. This Large Galvanized Pail is sturdy and has that classic look we all love. To dress it up, I tied some white pom trim around the pail. I love how the pom poms look like snowballs!

Now that the pail has been prepped, it's time to show you the star of the gift: the snowballs! These Plush Funny Face Snowballs are fun to throw, and are not nearly as cold as the real thing. These 4" snowballs with goofy, embroidered faces are perfect for tossing at friends and family in an indoor snowball fight!

After a snowball fight, you always need to take some time to warm up with hot cocoa and a snack. Along with the snowballs, I'm adding a mug of goodies for each member of the family to the kit. These Winter Snowflake Plastic Mugs are adorable and can be used for both hot and cold drinks!

Inside of each mug, I'm adding a packet of hot cocoa and a few other surprises: Blue & Silver Hershey’s Kisses, Snowman Face Lollipop, a Marshmallow Blow Blaster and Snowman Fluffs (marshmallows)!

Put the goodies into a Metallic Snowflake Goody Bags and tie it closed with some string or ribbon. Toss a few Hershey's Kisses into the bottom of the mug, add in the goody bag and hot cocoa, and then arrange the lollipop so that it's peeking out of the bundle.

Include some Snowflake Window Clings to the kit to make it a white Christmas no matter the climate! Stick these snowflake clings to windows, mirrors, walls and more to make the soft snow fall!

This Indoor Snowball Fight Kit with Free Printable Tag is a fun gift for kids and the perfect idea for a night of family fun!

Arrange all of the items in the pail. I also sprinkled a few more Hershey's Kisses and Snowman Fluffs packages for a little extra sweetness!

Print out the gift tag by clicking the link below. There are four gift tags on a page in case you want to put a few kits together for friends and family. For best results, I recommend printing the tags on cardstock.

Sign your family's name at the bottom of the gift tag and place it in the pail or tie it onto the pom pom trim. Oriental Trading has a ton of snow-themed products that would also be fun to add to the kit.

We can't wait to share a few kits this winter with family, friends, and neighbors. This kit would also be such a fun gift to share anonymously with another family that could use some holiday cheer!

Create your own winter wonderland with an easy-to-make DIY Snow Globe!

Thanks to Peanut Butter & Co. for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions are my own.

Upcycle a peanut butter jar to create your own DIY Snow Globe winter wonderland!

Snow globes are so beautiful and magical. It's like your own winter wonderland, even if it doesn't snow in your area! This is an easy project that even the kids will love helping with, and would also make a sweet gift to share with someone else. All you need are a few simple supplies that you might already have on hand.

Upcycle a peanut butter jar to create your own DIY Snow Globe winter wonderland!

First, start out with some peanut butter. Any kind will do, but Peanut Butter & Co. Smooth Operator Peanut Butter has been my go-to lately. It tastes great, has 7g of protein per serving, and is gluten-free. The peanut butter is perfect for easy lunches and I also use it in baking (watch for some recipes coming at you soon)!

...The point is, eat that peanut butter so you have an empty jar to work with. A plastic jar will be best, especially if kids are handling the snow globe since it's not as fragile as a glass jar.

Upcycle a peanut butter jar to create your own DIY Snow Globe winter wonderland!

Wash out the jar and the lid really well with soap to remove all of the peanut butter. Dry them both completely. Use some spray paint to cover both the top and bottom of the lid. I used a metallic gold. Let the paint dry, and add another coat if you think it needs more coverage.

While the paint dries on the lid, remove the label from the peanut butter jar. If you have some stubborn adhesive that just won't come off, use a paper towel with a little bit of vegetable oil on it. Rub it on the adhesive and it comes off like magic!! Wash the jar again to remove any oil and let the jar dry completely.

Now for the fun part: collecting supplies to fill your snow globe with! I browsed the miniatures and Christmas village accessories section in the craft store - make sure to look for things that will fit in the jar! I found this adorable 3" tall gnome holding a Christmas tree and a package of glittery snowflakes. I also grabbed a container of chunky, white glitter.

Upcycle a peanut butter jar to create your own DIY Snow Globe winter wonderland!

To prep the gnome figure before adding him to water, I painted a coat of clear spray paint to make sure it was sealed. Ceramic figures should be fine to use as-is, but I just wanted to make sure the paints didn't bleed (you never know), and that the glitter near his foot stayed in place. Let the figure dry completely.

Find a small lid similar to a soda bottle lid. Use some strong craft glue (E6000, Super Glue, Gorilla Glue, Beacon 3-in-1, etc) and attach the figure to the top of the lid.  Let it dry completely - overnight, if necessary. I know it's hard to wait, but this is extremely important in the long run!

Add a line of adhesive around the bottom of the soda lid. Turn the peanut butter jar lid upside down, and place the gnome/lid in the center of the lid. Hold in place for a minute or two. Again, let it dry completely - overnight, if necessary!

I didn't want the lid to show too much, so I added some hot glue around the base. I added a bunch of glue all around the gnome base, but make sure to leave some space around the edge! While the glue was still wet, I sprinkled some white glitter on it. Once the glue dried, I added another couple layers of glue and glitter to build it up and make it look like the gnome was standing in a bunch of snow instead of one little mound.

Once the glue has set, place the jar upside-down over the figure and make sure you can twist the jar closed. If the glue is in the way, you can carefully cut it away with a craft knife. It's very important that you can get the jar closed completely.

Upcycle a peanut butter jar to create your own DIY Snow Globe winter wonderland!

Now we're ready to make some magic! Fill up the jar almost to the top with hot water and add 1-2 tablespoons of glycerin (found in baking sections or at a pharmacy) or light corn syrup. Stir well to combine. Plain water will work great, but the glycerin will help the glitter to fall to the bottom of the snow globe a bit slower.

*I've heard that some people use baby oil in place of glycerin, so I did a test in a different jar. It failed miserably, trapping the glitter in between the oil and water at the top of the jar. I highly recommend that you don't use this method.

Upcycle a peanut butter jar to create your own DIY Snow Globe winter wonderland!

Add the snowflakes and sprinkle in the glitter. I recommend chunky glitters instead of fine glitters. Fine glitters seemed to just cloud up the water and you can't see them fall as well as the chunkier glitters. Carefully stir the glitters into the water a little bit to combine them with the water and help remove some of the air bubbles.

Upcycle a peanut butter jar to create your own DIY Snow Globe winter wonderland!

Slowly place the lid onto the jar. Watch the water - if it looks like it's about to overflow, take off the lid and remove a spoonful of water. Keep repeating until you can screw the lid on tightly without any water leaking. This will help prevent any large air bubbles at the top of your snow globe.

Shake the snow globe up and watch the snow fall around the figurine. If you feel like you need more glitter, snowflakes, or anything else, now is the time to do so. Once you're happy with the snow globe, carefully remove the lid and dry the rim of the jar and the edges of the inner lid with a q-tip. Add some strong craft glue and close the lid one last time to seal it closed. This is my best tip if kids will be playing with the snow globe. You definitely don't want this coming open! Set the snow globe somewhere it won't be bothered lid-side up to let the glue dry before shaking it up again.

Enjoy your homemade winter wonderland! The possibilities are endless with all of the fun items you can find to place inside your snow globe, and kids will love making some snow globes of their own!

What would you put inside a snow globe?

She and her husband work so hard, so they were the first people I thought of who deserved a bunch more holiday cheer.

Easy to Sew Leggings Tutorial

Easy to Sew Leggings Tutorial and Winter Shoe Shopping at artsyfartsymama.com #ohsofamous

Kids grow too fast. School just started a few months ago, and her pants are already starting to get floody on her. After creating a pattern to make some 18 inch doll leggings, I decided to apply the same tutorial and adjust it to sew up some new shiny (literally), longer leggings that will hopefully last her all winter long. Luckily, we were already needing to purchase new shoes for her to wear this winter, so maybe we can hide those older, shorter pant hems in some boots and high tops!

Easy to Sew Leggings Tutorial Tutorial at artsyfartsymama.com

Before you can sew up some leggings, you'll need to create a pattern. It sounds overwhelming, but I promise you can do it. This tutorial is for kid's leggings, but you can certainly use this to create leggings for ANY size!! I would recommend using fabric with stretch (knit, lycra, etc). You will also need some 3/4 inch elastic, a ballpoint needle and nylon thread.

Get a pair of leggings that fit great and turn them inside out and fold them in half. Grab some copy paper taped together lengthwise or use some butcher paper and trace the pants. Add about 1/2 inch around the side and the bottom, and about 1 1/2 inch at the top  for seam allowances, waistband and hems. The straight side edge of the pattern will need to be on the fold of your fabric, so just mark it with your pencil so you don't forget!

Easy to Sew Leggings Tutorial artsyfartsymama.com

Cut out two of your patterns on the fold of the fabric. Line up the fabric pieces right sides together and pin in place. Starting at the top, sew down both the left and right side with a zigzag stitch until you get to the curve (as shown above).

Easy to Sew Leggings Tutorial at artsyfartsymama.com

Here'a tip for easily hemming your leggings - while they are in one straight piece, fold the end of each pant leg over about 1/4 inch, then over another 1/4 inch and pin in place. Sew with a zigzag stitch all the way across. Now you won't have to worry about hemming them later!!

Easy to Sew Leggings Tutorial at artsyfartsymama.com

Fold the pants in half the other direction so the sides you already sewed are in the front and back. Line up the seams on the inside of the legs and pin in place. Then, starting at the bottom of one pant leg, sew up and all the way around to the bottom of the other pant leg.

Easy to Sew Leggings Tutorial at artsyfartsymama.com

For the waistband, fold the top of the pants over about 1/4 inch, then over about another inch and pin in place. Starting at either the front or back seam, sew all the way around the waist hem and leave about an inch open.

Measure your child's waist and add about 1/2 inch and cut the elastic. Place a safety pin at one end of the elastic and put it into the waistband through the opening. Fish it through the waistband (by using the safety pin) until it comes out the other end of the opening. Overlap the ends of the elastic about 1/2 inch and sew over the elastic a few times. Pull the waistband until the elastic is inside the fabric and sew the opening closed.

Easy to Sew Leggings Tutorial and Winter Shoe Shopping at artsyfartsymama.com #ohsofamous

Now your leggings are ready to wear! My daughter wears leggings ALL. THE. TIME., especially in winter under her dresses and skirts. The lycra adds some sparkle and lots of stretch so she can run and play on the playground without a care. For more warmth, I would recommend a thicker knit fabric.

Easy to Sew Leggings Tutorial and Winter Shoe Shopping at artsyfartsymama.com #ohsofamous

She chose the fabric for her new leggings, and couldn't be happier with her new fashion statement. The leopard print goes fabulously with her new Skechers Twinkle Toes Heart and Soul High Top Sneaker we found at Famous Footwear.

Easy to Sew Leggings Tutorial and Winter Shoe Shopping at artsyfartsymama.com #ohsofamous

She looks super grown up with these sneakers on, and loves showing off how they light up when she walks! The school shoes she's been wearing are already starting to wear down, and with the snow that's on it's way, these high tops are going to be wonderful to keep her feet warm and dry.

Easy to Sew Leggings Tutorial and Winter Shoe Shopping at artsyfartsymama.com #ohsofamous

Of course, another must-have for Utah winters are some kind of boots. These BEARPAW Emma Boots from Famous Footwear are lined with sheepskin lining wicks away moisture and keeps those little feet warm and comfy no matter what the weather. Plus, they are super stylish and she can still wear her leggings with them all winter long!

Chocolate Chip Snowball Cookies

Chocolate Chip Snowball Cookies at artsyfartsymama.com

I'm always looking for new cookie recipes to try during the holidays for parties, sharing with friends & neighbors, and of course to enjoy with a mug of hot chocolate. Snowball Cookies have been on my list to try for a long time, and I have no idea why I waited so long!! They are fun for kids to help bake, and you most likely already have all the ingredients in your pantry!

Chocolate Chip Snowball Cookies at artsyfartsymama.com

Chocolate Chip Snowball Cookies
Recipe adapted from AllRecipes

Ingredients:
1 cup butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
more powdered sugar for rolling

Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350º.
  2. Cream the butter with 1/2 cup of powdered sugar and vanilla.
  3. Mix in the flour and salt. Add mini chocolate chips.
  4. Roll about 1 tablespoon of dough into balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  5. Bake until bottoms are golden, which is about 12-15 minutes.
  6. Do not overbake! It's better to undercook them than to overcook them.
  7. Pour 1/2 cup powdered sugar into a bowl. While cookies are still hot, roll them in the powdered sugar and let them cool on a baking rack. Once they have completely cooled, roll the cookies in the powdered sugar again. They don't look too coated after the first time, but the second coating will give you the beautiful snowball look that these cookies are famous for.

Chocolate Chip Snowball Cookies at artsyfartsymama.com

If you aren't a fan of chocolate chips or just want to add some variety, you could substitute or add finely crushed candy canes, nuts or even bake the cookies plain! I hope you enjoy baking this holiday season and I'd love to hear if you try these chocolate chip snowball cookies out!!
