Resin Mermaid Shell Earrings

Make a splash with these Mermaid Shell Earrings made with glitter and resin!

Resin Mermaid Shell Earrings

Looking for some new jewelry to wear this summer? These Mermaid Shell Earrings are made with sparkling glitter and resin, and are going to be a hit! When I first saw these colors of glitter together in the June Glitter Luv Subscription Box, I knew they would be perfect together as earrings! They remind me of The Little Mermaid, which is one of my favorite Disney movies. The teal glitter is even more gorgeous in person. I love that there is fine purple glitter mixed in to it, which matches the purple glitter I used in the shells perfectly!

If you love glitter, the Glitter Luv Subscription Box is for you! Every month, you can get a themed box full of glittery goodness in colors that coordinate with the theme. June's theme was seashells, so the box came with these custom mixes (plus even MORE glitter!), a silicone shell mold, and so many more surprises. This was such a fun subscription box, and I am definitely going to be ordering more in my future!!

Be sure to prepare your workspace to protect from spills, and work in a well-ventilated area. It's also important to wear proper PPE, and disposable gloves.

Prepare 1 oz of  EasyCast Clear Casting Epoxy according to package directions. Add equal parts resin and hardener to the mixing cup (1/2 oz of each). Stir the resin mixture together with a stir stick for two minutes, making sure to scrape the bottom and sides of the mixing cup.

Pour the resin into a clean mixing cup and stir the resin again for another minute or two with a clean stir stick. If the resin mixture still has "ethereal" streaks going through it, you need to keep mixing until it becomes clear.

Split the resin into 2 mixing cups. Add a generous amount of teal glitter into one cup, and some purple glitter into the other cup of resin. Stir well until completely combined. These colors together remind me of mermaids, so that's why I chose them. If other colors work better for you, use them instead.

Make sure that the mold is clean and free of debris. I recommend cleaning and preparing your molds with Mold Release & Conditioner spray before each use to lengthen the life of silicone molds.

Slowly pour the resin into the mold, and fill them up to the top. If you accidentally over-pour, don't panic. It's easier to clean it up once it's cured than when it's still wet. Pop any bubbles that rise to the top using a heat gun, by blowing through a straw, or by lightly spritzing the surface of the resin with 91% alcohol to remove surface bubbles.

Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed, well ventilated area for 24 hours. You will know that the resin is completely cured when it is no longer tacky to the touch.

Carefully remove the resin from the molds and trim away any excess resin using scissors or a craft knife.

You will also need to gather your jewelry supplies: 2 each earring posts + backs and 10mm jump rings, jewelry pliers, and some adhesive.

Attach the earring posts + backs to the back of the circle part of the earrings using adhesive. Be sure to have the earring backs placed so that they aren't showing through the hole cutout. Set the pieces aside for the adhesive to dry.

Use the jewelry pliers to open the 10mm jump rings. Hook the jump ring through the holes in the two earring pieces to connect them. Use the pliers to close the jump rings.
