- refried beans: any type of refried beans will work for this recipe - canned, homemade, full-fat or non-fat, etc.
- taco seasoning: you can use a seasoning packet or homemade taco seasoning.
- guacamole: you can either pre-made or homemade guacamole.
- sour cream: any type of sour cream will work, however, full-fat sour cream is recommended for the best flavor and texture.
- olives: use sliced black olives
- tomatoes: use diced roma tomatoes
- shredded cheese: use mozzarella cheese for the top. If you want to use other cheeses, you can hide them under the mozzarella or in between other layers.
- other layering options:
- salsa
- diced onions
- lettuce
- cooked shredded chicken or ground beef
- bell pepper
(Specific measurements and full recipe instructions are found below)
You will also need 9x13 baking dish and a silicone spatula.

In a bowl, combine taco seasoning and refried beans. Use a spatula to spread the mixture evenly on the bottom of a baking dish.

The next layer is guacamole! You can use a pre-made dip, or mix up your own guacamole. No matter which option you choose, use the spatula to spread the guacamole evenly over the bean layer. Be sure to do this gently so that you don't accidentally combine the layers together.

Next, spread a thick layer of sour cream over the guacamole using the spatula. Again, use a light hand to spread so that you don't mix the layers together.

Turn the baking dish horizontally. Cover the top left corner of the dish with sliced olives - about ⅓ across, and ½ down.
*This is a great time to let the kids help create the flag!

Lastly, create even stripes across the dip using tomatoes and shredded mozzarella cheese.
Cover the taco dip and refrigerate for at least one hour to allow it to settle before serving.
