After completing the Percy Jackson Challenge this last spring, my daughter has become even more obsessed with Greek mythology. She has just started reading The Trials of Apollo series from Rick Riordan, and is loving it! There are four books in the series, with the newest one being The Tyrant's Tomb! To celebrate this new series, we decided to make our own Trials of Apollo Bottlecap Elastic Bookmark.

In this series, the god Apollo is cast down from Olympus after angering his father, Zeus. He lands in New York City as a mortal teenage boy. Now, without his godly powers, the deity must learn to survive in the modern world until he can somehow find a way to regain Zeus’s favor.

The Tyrant's Tomb is Apollo's penultimate adventure. Devastated but determined, he travels to Camp Jupiter, where he must learn what it is to be a hero, or die trying.

Book 1: The Hidden Oracle
Book 2: The Dark Prophecy
Book 3: The Burning Maze
Book 4: The Tyrant’s Tomb

Print out the 5"x7" Free Printable The Trials of Apollo Bottlecap Images on photo paper or glossy cardstock. Cut out the image with a 1" circle punch or use scissors.

Carefully place an epoxy sticker over the design. Be careful not to touch the back of the epoxy sticker or the front of the image. You'll be able to see your fingerprint on the finished product! Use a popsicle stick or something with an edge to rub the back of the image to help get the air bubbles out.

Add a small circle of glue on the bottlecap blank. Press the epoxy image into the center of the bottle cap. Let the bottle cap dry for a few hours (according to package directions).

Cut two small pieces of felt (about 3/4"x1") and set them aside. Next, cut a piece of fold over elastic 10"-12" long.

Add some craft glue or hot glue to one of the pieces of felt. Place both ends of the fold over elastic over the glue and press it in place. Make sure the elastic isn't twisted!

Glue the other piece of felt on top of the other piece of felt, sandwiching the ends of the elastic in place.

Last, glue the bottlecap on top of the felt. Hold it in place until the glue sets.

Wrap the elastic bookmark around the cover of the book, and slide the pages through to keep your place. Keep the bottlecap on the outside of the book - the felt behind the bottlecap will help keep the cover from getting scratched up.
