St. Patrick's Day Treat Boxes

St. Patrick's Day is a fun day dedicated to mischief and shenanigans. At our house, we set the traditional leprechaun trap the night before in hopes of catching the sneaky little fellas. Unfortunately, we have never caught one, but we do always seem to find a surprise in green and gold left behind instead. This year, I'm making these adorable St. Patrick's Day Treat Boxes for the sneaky leprechaun to leave behind, filled to the top with chocolate gold coins! These boxes would also be a fun party favor or gift to share with friends.

One thing I love about using the Cricut Maker to make projects like this is how it easy it is! You are guided through the process from start to finish, which makes it a helpful machine for even the most beginner crafter. Before you cut your papers, be sure to check the "Materials" setting to make sure that the machine cuts it perfectly the first time. The machine's Adaptive Tool System ensures professional-level cutting of hundreds of materials, so you don't have to worry about adjusting settings other than selecting the material you are cutting.

Along with your regular Fine Point Blade, you'll also need a tool to score the paper. This will help you to get perfect folds to make your boxes look more professional. You can use either the Cricut Scoring Wheel Tip + Drive Housing or Cricut Scoring Stylus with the Cricut Maker. The stylus works for average score lines, where the scoring wheel will give you extra-deep score lines instead.

I cut the box template out of green glitter cardstock, and the accent pieces out of this gorgeous hexagon gold & white foil embossed paper. They are the perfect look for a leprechaun surprise left behind, no?

Turn the box template over. Place the acetate piece over the shamrock cutout on the front of the box and tape around the edges. The acetate will allow you to see through the cutout, without the contents of the box falling out!

Turn the box back over and fold along all of the score lines. Use a little bit of glue or some glue dots to attach all of the gold foil embossed paper to the box template.

Add some glue or glue dots to the tab on the right side of the box template. Bring both ends together and stick the tab under the opposite side.

Close the bottom of the box by folding in the two side tabs first, then tuck the tab into the slit on the opposite tabs. You shouldn't need to use any glue.

Fill the box with your favorite St. Patrick's Day goodies, like chocolate coins! To close the box, first bring the handles together in the center and press down a little so that the top of the box is flat (with the handles up). Bring down the left flap first and fit the handles through the slit. Bring the other flap down, fitting the handles through the slit and then press the tab through the notch on the left side.

If you pair the circle and shamrock cutouts from the box, you can create a coordinating gift tag to go with the box. Just write a little note on the back of the tag and tie it on with some green twine.

These St. Patrick's Day Treat Boxes are going so be such a fun surprise from those sneaky leprechauns! They are also easy enough to make that they would be such a "sweet" gift for friends, family, or even a teacher for St. Patrick's Day!
