My daughter and I are huge bookworms. Reading together has been a really special way for us to spend time together and it also gives us the opportunity to enjoy new books. The most recent book we read was Jacky Ha-Ha by James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein. The story is told by a mom to her daughters, so naturally we jumped at the chance to read it.

Jacky Hart, the fourth of six sisters, uses humor to get attention and to disguise her stutter. She makes herself a promise to behave differently in school, but unfortunately ends up being the class clown. Her jokes and pranks often get her into trouble, which in a roundabout way, allow Jacky to learn new lessons along the way. Like in real life, Jacky's story has lots of ups and downs. This brought up many opportunities for my daughter and I to talk about real situations and handling emotions.

With the book being 300+ pages, it can become a little overwhelming for young readers. Fortunately, there are creative and quirky illustrations on almost every page to break up the text as well as help kids to visualize the story and to better explain Jacky's imaginative thoughts.

Zoey loved this book and I'm sure it will be something she will read again and again as she grows older. The pranks and jokes had her laughing, and seeing Jacky's triumphs as she faced her fears and discovered new talents were a great example of trying new things even if they are difficult or scary.

Because we love reading and really enjoyed this book, we created some fun Jacky Ha-Ha bookmarks to share with you as a free printable to download!
