These sweet and spooky Hocus Pocus Spellbook Brownies will definitely "put a spell on you" this Hallowen!

Hocus Pocus is one of my favorite Halloween movies, so of course I'm looking forward to sharing some Hocus Pocus-themed treats this Halloween season! These Hocus Pocus Spellbook Brownies are made using a brownie mix, and then decorated to look like Winnie's iconic spellbook. This spooky treat couldn't be easier to make, and are a fun dessert to share at Halloween parties and to make for movie night.

These Hocus Pocus Spellbook Brownies are a fun and easy dessert that's fun to share at Halloween parties and movie nights. Here's what you'll need:
(Specific measurements and full recipe instructions are found below)
- brownie mix: for a fudgy brownie, I recommend a “fudge brownie” mix, but any boxed brownie mix will do.
- powdered sugar: unlike granulated sugar, this is the right consistency to blend with the milk and, of course, sweetens the icing.
- cocoa powder: gives the icing its chocolatey flavor.
- salted butter: for best results, the butter should be room temperature.
- milk: any dairy milk or heavy cream will work to make the frosting creamy and smooth.
- vanilla extract: using a good quality vanilla is always recommended.
- gel food coloring: be sure to gel food coloring, and not liquid. The gel is thicker and more concentrated to create bolder colors. Liquid food coloring may not give you the same result.
- candy eyes: used for decoration.

Bake according to package directions. Do not overbake.

Allow the brownies to cool completely. Refrigerate to speed up the process. Remove the brownies from the pan and cut away the edges. Split the brownies into 8 equal-sized rectangles.

Then take a minute to enjoy eating those brownie edges - you deserve it!

While the brownies are cooling, prepare the icing. Whip together the icing ingredients, then add a generous amount of black gel food coloring and mix until smooth.

Pour the icing into a piping bag fitted with a writing frosting tip, or use a plastic storage bag with one of the corners cut off.

Carefully pipe lines and stitching on the top of the brownies to look like the spellbook from Hocus Pocus. To attach the eye, add a small dollop of icing to the back of a candy eye and gently press it onto the brownie.
