Resin Christmas Tree Earrings

Use UV resin and colorful crushed glass to create festive Christmas Tree Earrings!

Resin Christmas Tree Earrings

As you know, resin is one of my favorite materials to craft with, and these Christmas Tree Earrings are one of my newest holiday creations! These earrings are a great beginner project, and are so easy to make using UV resin. I love how these earrings turned out, and am excited to share them as gifts for friends to wear all throughout the holiday season! I hope you get inspired to make some for yourself.

Cut a 6-8 inch piece of packing tape and fold the ends over. This makes it easier to move the project around, if necessary. Place the Christmas tree charms face-down on the sticky side of the tape and use a brayer tool to press them down REALLY well. Turn the tape over and press them again. I'd recommend even scraping the tape down well with your fingernails so that the bezels are stuck to the tape as much as possible. Any air bubbles or openings will give the resin areas to seep out.

Mix up a little bit of gold glitter with a small drop of UV resin with a toothpick. I usually do my resin work on top of a silicone mat, and you can mix this resin up right on the mat instead of in a cup. Use the end of the toothpick to fill the opening of the star on both of the bezels with the glitter mixture.

Next, sprinkle some of the crushed glass into a small mixing cup. Fill one area of the tree charm about halfway with UV resin. Use the toothpick to add pieces of glass to the resin, at least one at a time. Make sure the pieces are pressed down into the resin, and that they are filling in the corners.

It is easier to mix the glass with resin and then fill the bezel with the mixture, but I found that some of the dye from the glass bled into the resin and gave it a muddy tint. The trees from this experiment were definitely NOT festive. So while it may seem a little tedious to fill the bezels a few pieces of glass at a time, just remember that you'll actually get the best results this way.

Repeat the process until all four sections of both trees are filled with resin and glass chips. Top them off with little more resin, if necessary. Spritz the surface with alcohol to remove any surface bubbles.

Place the tree bezels (still attached to the piece of tape) under UV light for at least 2 minutes. Turn the tape over, and cure the other side under the light for the same amount of time. Lightly tap the surface of the resin to make sure it has cured. It should be hardened completely and no longer tacky.

Slowly peel the trees away from the tape. If there are any areas that don't seem to be cured or are sticking to the tape, stick it back down and cure it a bit longer. This doesn't happen too often, but you can remove any sticky residue left behind from the tape with a little bit of alcohol.

To give the charms a finished look, dome the top with one last coat of UV resin. Use a toothpick to cover the entire charm with resin, making sure to get it right to the edges. Pop any surface bubbles with alcohol, and then cure under the UV light. I would recommend also covering the opposite side of the charm.

Use some jewelry pliers to attach earring hooks to the top of the bezels to create a pair of matching Christmas Tree Earrings! You could also turn these into a necklace, or add a key ring with chain to make a holiday keychain or ornament.
