Add a little magic to your home decor with this Free Spectrespecs Cross Stitch Pattern!
When I was younger, I made many attempts to complete a cross stitch project. Eventually, my floss would get tangled up or I would lose my space in the pattern and just give up. After working with Anchor Embroidery Floss Spools and loving it, I decided to give cross stitching another chance. I'm so glad I did!! Luna Lovegood (from Harry Potter) and her iconic Spectrespecs are my inspiration for this project, and I absolutely LOVE how it turned out. So much so, that I'm sharing the pattern here so you can make one for yourself!
To make this Spectrespecs Cross Stitch project, you will need these supplies:
- Spectrespecs Cross Stitch Pattern (for personal use only)
- Anchor Stitchable Felt
- Anchor Embroidery Floss Spools
- Blunt Embroidery Needle
- Embroidery Scissors
- Scissors
- Pen or Marker (optional)
- 5x10 Frame
Download the Spectrespecs Cross Stitch Pattern (for personal use only) and print it out on regular copy paper. Use scissors to trim the stitchable felt to measure 5" x 10", or count 30x60 holes in the felt. I left the bottom and side margins/edges of the felt intact so that I had something to hold onto as I stitched.
The stitchable felt is already perforated, making it immediately ready to use, and eliminates the need for using sharp needles to complete your cross stitch projects. The felt is also stiff enough that you don't need to use a hoop. This felt is such a fantastic product for both cross stitch beginners and kids alike!
Each group of four perforated holes in the felt equals a "square" on the printed pattern. Cut a length of pink embroidery floss to about 18-20 inches and thread it onto a blunt embroidery needle. Follow the pattern and count the "squares" on the felt to stitch an "X" through each color-coded square. To keep track of your stitches, use a pen or marker to check off the pattern squares as you go.
When you run low on floss, turn the felt over. Slide the needle under a neighboring stitch and tie the floss into a double-knot. Use the embroidery scissors to trim the floss a little bit away from the knot.
Re-thread the needle and follow the pattern to complete the pink part of the design. Like embroidery, cross stitching can take some time to complete, so I recommend turning on a Harry Potter movie to watch while you work!
To fill the lenses in quickly, I filled the area in with just one side of the "X" on every line (it doesn't matter which direction). Once filled, go back and complete the Xs in the other direction. This seemed to go quicker than stitching the pink part of the design.
Once completed, take a minute to admire your hard work! Then use scissors to trim the bottom and side edges off of the stitchable felt. Use a lint roller to remove any stray floss or debris from the project.
Place the completed Spectrespecs Cross Stitch into a 5x10 frame to display in your craft room, on a desk, or anywhere you want to add a little magic! I had a lot of fun making this cross stitch, and am looking forward to creating more.
