Harry Potter Resin Keychain

Take a little magic wherever you go with a Harry Potter Resin Keychain!

Harry Potter Resin Keychains

*Accio* keys!! You'll definitely need your set of keys nearby after you see how to make an adorable Harry Potter keychain out of resin! This project combines my two favorite things: resin and Harry Potter. I had so much fun making a bunch of these keychains to share with the Team Creative Crafts group as a fun surprise to celebrate our Harry Potter Christmas Crafts collaboration. These keychains are simple to make, and are actually a fantastic project for resin beginners to try.

New to resin? Be sure to check out Resin 101: Getting Started with Resin!

To make your own Harry Potter Resin Keychains, you will need these supplies:

Download and print the Harry Potter Keychain Art on transparency film. Carefully cut the rectangles out just inside the borderline with sharp scissors.

Make sure to check the transparency packaging for printing instructions. If you print using an inkjet printer, you will need to spray a coat of Envirotex Spray Sealer over the printed images to prevent the ink from bleeding into the resin. Let the sealant dry completely before moving onto the next step.

Prepare the EasyCast Clear Casting Epoxy according to package directions. Be sure to work in a well-ventilated area, wear disposable gloves, and protect your workspace.

Add equal parts resin and hardener to the mixing cup. Each mold will need 5 ml/cc, so make sure you have the correct measurements if you are making multiple keychains. Stir the resin mixture together with a stir stick for two minutes, making sure to scrape the bottom and sides of the mixing cup. After 2 minutes, pour the resin into a clean mixing cup and stir the resin again for another minute or two with a clean stir stick.

If the resin mixture is still cloudy or streaky, you will need to keep stirring until it becomes clear. To keep the bubbles down to a minimum, don’t stir too fast, and then give the resin a minute or two to “rest” after mixing to let any bubbles rise to the top.

Pour 5 ml/cc resin into the mold. Place the print into the resin. Use a clean stir stick or a resin brush to carefully press it down into the mold until it is completely submerged. Lightly drag the stir stick from the center to the outer edge of the transparency film to bring any bubbles that may be stuck underneath to the surface.

Let the resin sit for a few minutes, then use a straw, heat gun, or spritz with 91% alcohol to remove any air bubbles that rise to the top. Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed area for at least 4 hours. DO NOT REMOVE THE KEYCHAIN FROM THE MOLD.

Mix up another 5 ml resin per keychain, the same way as before. Add in a little bit of white Castin' Craft Opaque Pigment and stir well with a stir stick to combine. Stir in a generous amount of iridescent glitter to the resin mixture for some added sparkle.

Pour white resin mixture over the first layer in the mold. Let the resin sit for a few minutes, then use a straw, heat gun, or spritz with 91% alcohol to remove any air bubbles that rise to the top. Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed, well ventilated area for 24 hours. You will know that the resin is completely cured when it is no longer tacky to the touch.

Now for the magical reveal!! Carefully remove the keychain from the mold and admire your amazing work. I absolutely love how the glitter peeks through the image of Harry and Hedwig!

If you have any rough edges, you can trim them away with scissors or sand them down.

Hook a 10-12mm jump ring through the hole in the keychain, and then hook the key ring chain to the jump ring. Close the jump ring to connect the key ring to the charm. Now the keychains are ready to go and you can take a little Harry Potter magic with you wherever you go!

If you purchase other Harry Potter clipart, you can make a unique keychain for every character! I made this special Luna Lovegood keychain to gift to my good friend, Laura, who absolutely loves Luna! I paired the character keychain with a glittery resin Spectrespecs keychain (more on that soon!) for some added magic.

I would love to hear what you think about this set of Harry Potter Resin Keychains! As always, if you make any of these projects for yourself, I'd love to see your creations! Tag me on Instagram and Facebook, or leave a comment/photo on the project pin on Pinterest!
