Cricut Infusible Ink: What You Need to Know

All you need to know about the new Cricut Infusible Ink: what it is, how it works, where to buy, and which Cricut machines will work with Infusible Ink!

Cricut just announced the exciting news that they are teaming up with Michaels to bring you the all-new Infusible Ink system! It's an incredibly new way to do heat transfer, and it's going to be a game-changer to help you get the commercial-level effects you strive to achieve in your permanent heat transfer projects. I'm hoping to try some out soon, but until then, I'm here to share all that you need to know about Cricut Infusible Ink!

What is Infusible Ink?

Infusible Ink is the latest line of products from Cricut to give you seamlessly smooth, professional-quality transfers that become one with your material. The Infusible Ink heat transfers are permanently infused into your base material, so there's no seams or edges like iron-on vinyl. It’s a peel-proof, flake-proof, and wash-proof product that will make your iron-on projects last longer than ever.

What are the Infusible Ink products?

Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets: sheets of solid and patterned ink that can be cut out using your Cricut, then used to infuse vibrant color into the Infusible Ink compatible blanks.

Infusible Ink Pens and Markers: Choose from a variety of colors and two different line weights of pens and markers to draw designs on laser copy paper using a Cricut machine or by hand to then transfer to a compatible blank.

Compatible Infusible Ink Blanks: To get the best results, pair the Infusible Ink products with Cricut blanks (look for the compatibility badge). So far, this exclusive collection includes shirts, baby onesies, totes, and coasters!

What is the difference between iron-on vinyl and Infusible Ink?

Iron-on/HTV uses a heat-activated adhesive to stick to a ton of different surfaces, including wood and canvas. What you see in the HTV is what you get, and there are a ton of colors, finishes, and patterns.

Infusible Ink transfer becomes one with the material itself. The transfers look light, but the finished results are bright, vibrant, seamlessly smooth transfers that never flake, peel, wrinkle, or crack.

There are different reasons to use each material. For instance, use iron-on if you have a dark-colored surface, are using wood or 100% cotton, or if you want a glitter, holographic, or metallic/foil finish. If you want sharp, vivid, and vibrant designs that never crack, peel, or flake, Infusible Ink will be your go-to.

How does Infusible Ink work?

You can get to creating custom Infusible Ink projects in just 3 easy steps:

1. Choose your materials: Select Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets or Infusible Ink Pens & Markers and a compatible Cricut blank.

2. Make your design: Cut Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets, or draw with Infusible Ink Pens & Markers using laser copy paper.

3. Apply heat: Infuse your design into your Cricut blank with the Cricut EasyPress 2.

What machines will work with Infusible Ink?

You can actually use almost any cutting machine out there, but the Infusible Ink system was specifically designed to work seamlessly with the Cricut Explore family of machines and the Cricut Maker machine.

To infuse your design into a Cricut blank, you will need a Cricut EasyPress 2. The original EasyPress will work okay, but the Infusible Ink is designed to work best with the EasyPress 2.
