I decorate for Christmas with a different color scheme than the traditional red and green, so sometimes finding holiday decor in pinks, blues, purples and greens can be a little difficult. Instead, I create my own decor - like this fun Christmas Countdown I just made with a little help from Expressions Vinyl!

First, start with two 3x3" blocks and a 3.5x6.5x1.5" block. Sand the blocks until completely smooth. I also like to sand the edges and corners more to make them a little rounded.

Paint the blocks with white acrylic paint. I painted about 3 coats of paint, making sure each layer dried before adding the next. If you like a more worn/shabby look, sand the edges a bit and you can also put on a little bit of stain. I also spray painted a coat of clear gloss spray paint just to give it a little extra shine and to protect the paint.

While the paint dries, you can get your vinyl ready to cut! For my countdown, I used Lustre Vinyl in Magenta, and Heavy Metal Vinyl in Green Apple, Royal Blue, Purple, and Silver.

I typed up all the numbers and the "days until Christmas" in Design Space. When the design is ready, hit "GO". Stick the vinyl on a StandardGrip Mat, then cut out the numbers and "days until Christmas" on the Cricut Explore Air 2. If you are in a hurry, you can even select Fast Mode to cut up to 2x faster!!

The vinyl cut perfectly and weeded beautifully. I love how shimmery the Lustre Vinyl and Heavy Metal Vinyl are without being too overbearing. Usually I go straight for the Glitter Vinyl, but I wanted to try something different this time.

You'll need different sets of numbers on each block so you can create a two-digit number to count down to Christmas. On one block, put 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. On the other block, put 0, 1, 2, 6, 7, 8. To put the numbers on the block, I just peeled them off the backing and stuck them on like a sticker. No transfer tape needed (unless you really want to)!!

Speaking of transfer tape - if you don't have any or are running a little short, try this money-saving vinyl transfer hack to apply the "days until Christmas" vinyl! It works just like transfer tape and doesn't leave any sticky residue. It's great for small projects like this one.
