Monster Letter Set

One of my favorite Halloween decorations is this adorable Monster Letter Set from Crafty Wood Cutouts:

It was love at first sight! If you haven't had a chance to check out this store, you really should! It is literally filled with all kinds of fun unfinished wood projects, and a plethora of paints, scrapbook paper and accessories to really make your project stand out. They also have every craft made up as a sample {so cute!} and you can get the same products to recreate the look, or do something completely different and make it your own! All the items I used for this project were purchased at Crafty Wood Cutouts, except for the paint and Mod Podge, which I already had on hand.

The Monster Letter Set came unfinished, pre-sanded, andl ready to go! That was awesome. I started out by giving each letter a coat or two {or three!} of paint. I used Americana Dioxazine Purple paint for the "M", "S", and the "R". The "N" and "E" are both painted in Americana Turquoise Blue, and the "O" and the "T" are painted in Americana Lamp (Ebony) Black on the sides and back.

I painted the fronts of both the "S" and the "E", but the rest were left blank. Once they were dry, I gave the fronts of the "S" and the "E" a thick coat of Mod Podge. Then, I poured some purple glitter over the "S" and let it sit while I poured blue glitter over the Mod Podge-covered "E". After letting them sit for a little bit, I stood the letters up and gently tapped the excess glitter off and then let them finish drying. I then sprayed a thin coat of sealer over each letter to help keep the glitter from falling off.

Next, I traced each letter on different Halloween scrapbook papers and Mod Podged them on. Once they were dry, I lightly sanded the edges of the paper. Then, I took a sponge brush and tapped around all the edges for a distressed look and to help the paper edges blend in a little better. I sealed each one with another coat of Mod Podge. The "O" eyeball was hand painted. I used Americana Bright Orange to tie it in to the paper patterns and bring the whole design together. I added a layer of Mod Podge on top to give them all a similar look.

Quite a bit of work, but it's SO worth it! I have gotten so many compliments on this decoration.
It measures about 36 inches wide by 9 inches tall.

**I received this Monster Letter Set, paper, and accessories for this review. All opinions are my own.**
