Halloween Character Blocks

I'd like to introduce you to my latest creations:

Halloween Character Blocks at artsyfartsymama.com

My adorable Halloween character blocks! I absolutely love them!! They are so easy to make, and add so much to my Halloween decor. And no, it's NOT too early to decorate for Halloween... in my opinion...

I started by bribing asking my husband to cut a 2x4 into 6 inch blocks. I used the fabulous new sander {that my awesome husband got me for my birthday!!} to sand all the edges smooth.

I also bribed asked him to cut some pattern pieces out for me with the jigsaw. I hand drew all the pieces on cardstock, then cut them out to make a stencil.

I used these paints for the block parts of the Halloween characters: Americana/DecoArt in Lamp {Ebony} Black, Sour Apple, Bright Orange, Snow (Titanium) White, and FolkArt Extreme Glitter in Green and Silver

For the parts, I used Americana in Black and Sour Apple and Anita's Red.

On the witch's hat, I also glued on some purple glitter ribbon. Let's be honest - you can never have enough glitter!

Here's a better view {and more detail} of each character:

Halloween Pumpkin Block at artsyfartsymama.com #Halloween #pumpkin

Pumpkin: Painted in Bright Orange, topped with a wood knob painted in Sour Apple, and painted a face with black paint. You can also use a Sharpie marker for the face.

Halloween Frankenstein Block at artsyfartsymama.com #Halloween

Frankenstein: Painted in Sour Apple, knobs painted silver, and face/stitches in black paint. His hair is one of the pattern pieces painted black and glued on.

Halloween Vampire Block at artsyfartsymama.com #Halloween

Vampire: Painted in white, and then coated with some silver Extreme Glitter paint... you know, because vampires are sparkly... Then I added on collar and hair pattern pieces painted in black, and his cape pieces are painted red and glued on the back.

Halloween Mummy Block at artsyfartsymama.com #Halloween #mummy

Mummy: Painted white, then painted black eyes. Then, I ripped some white fabric. Glued one end on, wrapped it around and glued the other end. Easiest one of all!!

Halloween Witch Blocs at artsyfartsymama.com #Halloween #witch

Witch: Painted in Sour Apple and then coated with green Extreme Glitter paint. Nose and hat are pattern pieces. Painted her nose with the same green paint & glitter and glued on. Glued purple glitter ribbon to the hat, then glued the hat on. I curled the wires and hot glued them on both sides of her head.

And that's it!! So fun, and SO easy!! You can customize the characters however you like, and they don't cost much to make - which is important at my house!

They turned out so awesome that I invited some friends and family over this weekend for a craft night/day at my house! It turned out great and we had a lot of fun!! Except instead of cutting the pattern pieces out of wood, I just cut them out of craft foam. Turned out even BETTER and so much easier!!

Here's a few pictures from our "crafternoon":
