Moving to a new home can be both exciting and utter chaos. You suddenly have no idea where anything is when you need it, and life is practically and literally turned upside down. Eventually, though, things start to get back to a new kind of normal. Having an area in our home dedicated to schedules, reminders, and organization has helped so much during our transition to get life back on track.

I previously worked with Wallternatives to decorate my daughter's bedroom. I absolutely love their WallPrints™ Fabric Decals and wanted to try out their ChalkTalk™ Chalkboard Decals and knew just the spot for it to go. I already hung up my Dry Erase Calendar, my daughter's Chore Chart, and Key Hanger, but the wall next to it was just needing something.

With my husband's help, the Horizontal Week Schedule Chalkboard Vinyl Wall Decal was fairly simple to apply to the empty wall. Clean the wall before applying the vinyl, and use a measuring tape and a level to make marks on the wall where it should go.

Before applying the vinyl, run a scraper (or credit card) over the front of the entire decal so that it will stick to the transfer paper better. Slowly peel up the transfer paper and rub the scraper across any areas that aren't sticking. Have a friend or spouse nearby to help you - it will be almost impossible for you to do it on your own without disaster.

Once you have the transfer paper with the decal peeled up, it's time to apply the vinyl to the wall! Start at one end and line your decal up with the marks you made. Even though the vinyl is removable and reusable and leaves no adhesive residue, it won't be fun trying to adjust the entire decal manually if you stick it in the wrong place. Rub the scraper over the transfer paper to get the decal to stick to the wall, and keep in mind that you can work out any bubbles once the transfer paper is peeled off.

When the entire decal has been stuck to the wall, start at one side peeling the transfer paper. Use the scraper for any vinyl that isn't sticking to the wall. You can work out any bubbles with the scraper or by peeling up a corner of the vinyl and resticking/scraping so that it lays flat.

ChalkTalk™ Chalkboard Decals have a slight surface texture that makes them a perfect surface for writing or drawing on it with chalk, and just wipes clean with an eraser, damp towel, or sponge. I prefer to use chalk markers in different colors and a damp paper towel cleans it right up. The decal measures about 43" wide x 24" high, so it filled up my empty wall beautifully. The chalkboard vinyl can be applied to any flat, smooth surface such as refrigerators, doors, and painted walls. And since vinyl isn't permanent, it would be a great way to dress up a dorm or apartment!

I'm so happy with how my home command center looks, and it feels great to be organized and know what's going on in our week. There's still more I need to add to organize our lives, but for now this has helped tremendously. The ChalkTalk™ Chalkboard Decals are fantastic and come in a variety of designs, and I'm looking forward to getting more for my office and other rooms in my home.

  3. I saw this on their site - I love it! I wonder if making it pretty like this would make me actually use a calendar?? Haha.
