Hoo Are You?

Hoooooray for Tuesday!
NightOwlCrafting
Let's get this party started!

1. What are some of your pet peeves?
  • People who copy/steal (*inspiration is completely different - if you use the idea, make it your own and give credit where credit is due!)
  • People who only talk to me when they want something (*this is only okay when it has to do with business)
  • Being sticky (hard to avoid with a 20 month old) or sweaty
  • It drives me crazy when the computer is slow, especially when I have just one little change I'm trying to make!
  • Oh, and I can't forget misspellings and bad grammar. My mom is the same way, so I can call her and laugh at some of the funny things I find.
2. Do you have a favorite or lucky number?
I use 5 a lot. And I like 47, just because it's fun to say.

3. What is one of your family traditions?
I'm excited to pass along some of the holiday traditions with my daughter that my mom used to do with us (Valentine "secret sack", green food on St Patrick's day, April Fool's dinner, doing crafts together in the summer, etc). I'm also planning on celebrating a 1/2 birthday for my daughter in the summers since her birthday falls around Christmas.

4. Is there anything you are OC about?
  • It bugs me going to bed with a messy kitchen
  • I eat food/candy by color (specifically yellow, red, green, orange, blue, purple)
  • My computer files HAVE to be organized
  • I will stress about every project on my list until they are finished
  • My avoidance of being sticky - hate it.
  • OC could also stand for "obsessive crafting", which also describes me pretty well :)

5. What is your favorite kind of food?
I love Italian food, I could eat pasta every day! I also love Mexican food, but good Mexican restaurants are sometimes hard to find.

Head on over to Night Owl Crafting & join in on the fun!

DIY Necklaces

I got some great deals on some jewelry pieces, so of course I had to give jewelry-making a try! After much searching, I finally found some Dimensional Magic - and certainly put it to good use! I had so much fun! Can't wait to make more, and believe me, I will :)

Here are a few of the pieces I bought. Each one was $2 or less! Score.

First, I made up some designs to fit into each of the pendants. Luckily the packaging had the dimensions printed on them, otherwise I would have had to measure it myself. Since I wanted my jewelry to represent me & my personality, I put together my own designs on the computer. I love everything about the quote found here, so I adjusted the size of the image to fit & added the border. Next, I printed them off & cut them out.

Attaching the images was simple:
1. Cut image to fit into pendant. Set aside
2. Paint inside pendant with Mod Podge
3. Place image inside pendant, and press into Mod Podge
4. Let sit for a minute or two, then paint more Mod Podge on top of image. Let dry!

Here are the pendants drying! I love them already...

Next, I painted some glitter glue along the top & bottom edges of the quote pendant
and let it dry completely.

I poured on the Dimensional Magic, and filled up each pendant. It goes on opaque, but it dries clear.
I made sure to get all the edges and was a perfectionist about getting all the bubbles out by using a pin.
The package says they should be dry in 3 hours, but I needed to let them dry overnight.
Resist the urge to hover over them, playing with them or touching them to see if they are dry!

The next morning, I noticed one of the pendants had a lot of bubbles at the bottom. Not sure why.
Even though I was a bit paranoid about the bubbles & made sure to get rid of every one, it still happened.
It's ok though... it adds character, right??
*This finished pendant will be shown in a future post, it still had some work to be done :)

Once your pendants are dry, they are done!

Put them on your favorite chain & show off your fabulous work!

Here's a closer look of the glitter feature on this one. I love it!!

I wore this one to my family birthday party this weekend, everyone seemed surprised I made it myself!
(I'm taking that as a compliment...)

Couldn't resist having some jewelry with pictures of my favorite people in the world :)

and now, I will model these lovely necklaces for you!
No, you aren't seeing things. For some reason the chevron bled a little.
Not sure why, I printed on a laser printer... Oh well, I still love it!!

Let me know what you think!

Hoo Are You?

Hooooooray for Tuesday!
Time for some
NightOwlCrafting

1. Do you prefer to use a regular pencil or mechanical pencil?
Definitely regular pencils for drawing, mechanical pencils are more convenient when writing - but watch out for when the lead snaps & shoot straight into your eyeballs! That's one reason I stick to pens for writing!!

2. What is your favorite color in the crayon box?
My daughter & I have actually been coloring in a Care Bear coloring book all morning, so I'd have to say the color I seemed to use the most is purple or turquoise.

3. Bottled glue or glue stick?
Glue stick for scrapbooking/paper projects since liquid glue seems to warp the paper, but I use bottled glue (Mod Podge!!) for other projects!

4. Calculator or do it in your head?
If it's simple, I do it in my head or write it out. If I'm in a hurry or am being lazy I use the calculator

5. Favorite subject while in High School?
I loved school!! I'm not sure I had one favorite... but I really liked Art, Math & being on the yearbook staff!

Alfredo Lasagna Roll-Ups

When I saw the idea for rolled up lasagna on Pinterest, I knew I had to try it. Instead of making my regular lasagna recipe for the filling/sauce, I used my favorite alfredo recipe and chicken instead!
I made up my own version, and it turned out surprisingly FANTASTIC!

I will tell you how to make these babies in just a few, but first here is the recipe I love for
Alfredo Sauce:
1 pint heavy cream • 2 Tablespoon cream cheese
1 teaspoon garlic powder • 1 stick of butter
1/2 - 3/4 cup Parmesan cheese

In saucepan, combine butter, cream & cream cheese. Simmer until it's all melted & mixed well.
Add Parmesan & garlic powder. Simmer for 15-20 minutes on low.

Now that you have that ready, let's make some lasagna roll-ups!

To make 6 roll-ups, I used:
8x8" glass pan
6 lasagna noodles
alfredo sauce
2-3 chicken tenderloins
Italian seasoning
Mozzarella, Parmesan or whatever cheese you like

Prep pan by spraying with a little bit of non-stick spray and pour some alfredo sauce in to just cover the bottom of the pan. Start cooking the chicken with a little bit of Italian seasoning, and it helps to start boiling a pan of water for noodles at the same time.

When chicken is done, cut into small (slightly smaller than bite-size) pieces and split into 6 piles. When the water is at a rolling boil, drop in noodles and cook for about 8-10 minutes (or until al dente). Drain and rinse with cold water to prevent them from sticking to each other. (*Very Important!*) Lay out the noodles on some wax paper & blot dry with a paper towel.

Spread a little bit of alfredo sauce over each noodle. (Don't put too much or it will make a bigger mess for you to clean up later.) Sprinkle a little bit of Italian seasoning. Take one of your little groups of chicken and try to spread them out evenly over the noodle. Add a little bit of cheese. To roll up, start at one end and roll the noodle over the toppings. They can be hard to handle if they weren't dried. You won't be able to roll them tight and will have to lift the noodle a little over the chicken, otherwise you will end up pushing all the toppings out the other side.

Place the roll-up in the pan, seam-side down so they don't come undone. Once they are all in the pan, pour some more alfredo sauce overtop & try to get in between the roll-ups so they won't stick together. Sprinkle a little Italian seasoning if you want, then add cheese on top. Then bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted on top.

And that's it! Super easy, and so yummy!!
I love how they are single-sized, so you don't end up with a bunch of leftovers and they are great to pack in a lunch or freeze for later.
